The Quakers have always been know for an attitude of peace, as well as a commitment to strong character and Christian principals. For years I have had these rules written in the back of my Bible. These "daily dozen" certainly are good rules for any Christian or individual who aspires to a Godly and disciplined life!
1. Begin each Day with Prayer
"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." — Mark 1:35
2. Work Hard
"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." — Eccl. 9:19
3. Love your Family
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;" — Ephesians 5:25
'Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: — 1 Peter 3:8
4. Make Light of your Troubles
"Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: — 1 Peter 6:6-7
5. Follow the Golden Rule —"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." —
A paraphrase of Christ's words — "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." — Matthew 7:12
6. Read from the Bible
"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." — Acts 17:11
7. Show Kindness
"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." — Ephesians 4:32
8. Read Worthwhile Books
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." — Ephesians 4:32
9. Be Clean and Pure
"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." — 1 Timothy 2:12
10. Have Charity and Love in your Heart
" Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love , I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal." — 1 Corinthians 13:1
11. Be Obedient and Respectful
"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." — Romans 13:1
12. End the Day in Prayer
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." — Psalms 91:1
