1. Genesis 2:7 |
The English word soul" in the original Hebrew is nephesh simply means a breathing creature. (Strong's Concordance 5315) It comes from a root word naphesh (Strong's Concordance #5314) meaning to breathe. In other words, man was simply a breathing creature; there is nothing here about him being or possessing an "immortal soul". |
2. C.R.-Genesis 1:20-21 |
Every where "creature" is written here, the Hebrew word is nephesh, here referring to sea and fowl forms of life. The essential use of the Hebrew nephesh has to do with being. It is defined in Strong's Concordance #5315 in a very wide literal and figurative sense. It can mean a "breathing creature" vitality, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, dead, ect. Clearly nothing immortal is implied by this word.

3. C.R.-Genesis 1:24 |
Here again the word in the English translated as creature is nephesh, referring here to animal forms of life. In the Hebrew Bible, the word nephesh is used 754 times. It it translated into the English 472 times as soul. Clearly, the Hebrew proves all throughout the Old Testament that nephesh cannot, under any circumstances mean ANYTHING immortal, eternal, "extra-physical" or possessing life; other than temporary or mortal! |
4. C.R.-Numbers 19:11 |
You will find when you read the words "He that toucheth the dead body of any man-" that the Hebrew word for body is nephesh. Clearly, we find that this Hebrew word is even used to refer to a decaying corpse or body, so it obviously has nothing with immortality! |
5. C.R.-Leviticus 17:11 |
The scripture reads here, "For the life(nephesh) of the flesh is in the blood". The blood coursing through the veins of course brings life giving oxygen to the body. There is nothing implied by this Hebrew word which indicates immortality! |
6. C.R.- Genesis 2:17 |
Notice God told Adam that in the day he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil he would die. He was not immortal. |

The serpent (Satan) lies to Eve and tells her she will not die if she eats the fruit from the forbidden tree. This is the origin of the false doctrine of the immortal soul! |

Notice that God drove Adam and Eve from the Garden to keep them from eating the tree of life, which would have enabled them to live for ever. They were prevented from having immortality! |

Man is like the beasts that perish. |
C.R. |

perish |

The soul (life) can die! It is repeated twice here for emphasis. |
15. C.R.-Daniel 12:2 |
Death is spoken of as "sleep", when of course there is no consciousness |
16. C.R.- Malachi 4:1 |
The wicked shall be burnt up, leaving nothing behind |
17. C.R.- Matthew 10:28 |
Clearly both soul and body can be destroyed, so the soul is not immortal. The English word for "soul" here is in the Greek psuche It is used 105 times in the Greek New Testament. It is rendered "soul" only 58 times, "life" 40 times, "mind" 3 times, and "heart", "heartily", "us" and "you" (one time each).
It is #5590 in Strong's concordance and simply means "breath", coming from a root word meaning "to breathe". All animal life dependant upon air or oxygen, so the essential meaning is "life". Psuche is the exact Greek corresponding word to the Hebrew word nephesh. |
18. C.R.-Revelation 8:9 |
You will notice here that the English word "life" is again from the Greek word psuche; here speaking of lower forms of sea life. |
19. C.R.- Revelation 16:3 |
Notice that the English word "soul" is again from the Greek word psuche; here again speaking of every temporary form of sea life. There is nothing immortal or "extra-physical" about the meaning of soul or psuche at all! |
